DRAGONLAND Members To Score French Film
May 8, 2006DRAGONLAND's Olof Mörck and Elias Holmlid will be working with French director and screenplay writer Thierry Lorenzi, scoring the music for his gothic and romantic short film "Bye Bye Bloody Mary", which will feature some high-profile names in French cinema, such as Didier Azoulay (who played the antagonist to Jet Li in "Kiss of the Dragon") and Jo Prestia (who starred with Antonio Banderas in "Femme Fatale" and Monica Belucci in "Irreversible"). Ensuring the visual quality of the short film will among others be set designer Guy-Claude Francois, responsible for the set design of "Brotherhood of the Wolves", among other films, and director of photography Benoit Debie, who will be working with Marilyn Manson on his upcoming film "Phantasmagoria". The project will be promoted at this year's Cannes festival, and will be aired on French television and various film festivals starting November this year. The film poster can be viewed here.
Commented DRAGONLAND guitarist Olof Mörck: "Scoring the music to this very ambitious short film is both a dream come true and a great honour, but also a very logical step from themes we have worked upon before, such as 'Starfall''s 'Book of Shadows' trilogy, which was firmly rooted in the movie score realm, in a way very different from the usual metal band's interpretation of film score music, which is usually the huge choirs and silky strings. We have always tried to stay closer to a more true interpretation of film score music in a metal context, but that it would spark the interest of people working with cinema was beyond my expectations.
"Needless to say, we are very thrilled to be working on this project, and I have the greatest respect for the people involved in this production; I am especially a huge fan of 'Brotherhood of the Wolves', and I truly can't wait to see our music and Guy-Claude's set designs working in unison to create a truly gothic and tragic mood. I have read the screenplay countless of times, and I think Thierry Lorenzi has created a very impressive script for a movie that is sure to make an impact on French cinema."
Commented director and screenplay writer Thierry Lorenzi: "Working with Olof Mörck and Elias Holmlid from DRAGONLAND is an honor for me and the movie. The music is as significant as the picture in a movie and I always thought that DRAGONLAND's music is in perfect adequacy with an epic and romantic picture. They have an other great asset: they are as pleasant as talented!"
